Mater Christi School’s Primary and Division I Odyssey of the Mind Teams Compete at State Tournament

March 20, 2016

The 2016 Vermont Odyssey of the Mind Tournament was held Saturday, March 19th, at Champlain Valley Union High School in Hinesburg. The Mater Christi School Odyssey of the Mind teams did such a good job and they should be proud. The competitions were as follows:

Problem 1: No-Cycle Recycle
Divisions I, II, & III

No-Cycle Recycle Division I (Grades 3 & 4) at 9:36 am (spontaneous) at the Spontaneous Check-in on the 2nd floor, and 11:10 am (long-term) in the North Gym. Division I Coaches are Declan McCabe and Sonell Knudsen

Teams were tasked to build, ride on, and drive a no-cycle, recycling vehicle. It will pick up discarded items, adapt them in some way, and then deliver them to places to be re-used. The vehicle must travel without pedaling for propulsion. In addition, the driver will have an assistant worker riding on the vehicle that will help process the trash items being repurposed. They will make an unplanned stop along the way to perform a random act of kindness.

Primary:Stir the Pot
Grades K-2

Stir the Pot Primary (Grades 1 & 2) at 12:00 pm and 12:20 pm in Rooms 103-107. Primary 2nd Grade Coaches are Jenny Larkin and Gina Roberge; Primary 1st Grade Coach is Courtney Rittenberg, Assistant Coach Sarah Sem, and 2nd Grade Helper Jake Broe.

Teams created and presented a humorous performance about an object that comes to life when touched by an item that turns out to be magical. While it is alive, the animated object will encounter three other objects that will result in a dramatic change of behavior. There will be a narrator character that explains what is happening and a character that becomes friends with the object. The performance will also include a team-created poem, song, or dance.
