Mater Christi School’s rich history began in 1886, when the first students of Mt. Saint Mary Academy entered its doors. Located at 100 Mansfield Avenue in Burlington, the school was housed within the newly constructed Sisters of Mercy convent. When the Sisters began teaching that November, a tradition of Catholic education on our campus was born. Today, more than 135 years later, Mater Christi School continues to provide a premier academic experience for pre-school through grade eight students, guided by the mission and core values the Sisters of Mercy inspired.

In the fall of 1963, Mater Christi School welcomed students in a new, separate building and became the successor to Mt. Saint Mary Academy. During its inaugural 1963-1964 academic year, MCS taught 231 students in kindergarten through grade eight.

Today, Mater Christi School is thriving. The strong foundation built by the Sisters of Mercy enables us to combine rigorous, 21st-century academics with a values-centered, global philosophy.
