On Sunday, May 22, the Traveling Door of Mercy will be at St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral in Burlington for a Mass with Bishop Coyne at 10:00. Bishop Coyne has asked that MCS families who attend St. Joseph’s Co-Cathedral stay behind after mass for a special group photo.

About the Door
The Burlington Catholic Diocese asked its schools to create a Holy Door to commemorate the Jubilee Year of Mercy declared by Pope Francis. The students of Mater Christi School, with vision and guidance from faculty, came to school on Martin Luther King Jr Day to talk about the Critical Concerns of the Sisters of Mercy, including racism. During those discussions, they created images depicting acts of mercy and the Critical Concerns. Each classroom presented a single image to be outlined on a Plexiglas panel in black hot glue. The Plexiglas panels were returned to the classrooms, where the students painted them with transparent paints to simulate stained glass. The panels were arranged into two unfinished pine frames, creating a pair of doors similar to the bronze Holy Doors on the Basilica of St. John Lateran in Rome. Titled “Contemporary Scenes of Mercy”, these full sized doors welcome people into God’s love by reminding us how to be instruments of mercy. As part of our mission to be a cornerstone of our community, Mater Christi School is sharing our messages of compassion and mercy with public by sending the Holy Door on tour. Learn more
