At Mater Christi School, our commitment to academic excellence and the arts was on full display during the recent middle school production of Great Expectations presented on May 8, 2025. With 26 students involved, this year’s play was a true group effort that showcased talent, dedication, and an exceptional grasp of literary performance.
Under the guidance of Literature Teacher Tim Fitzgerald, the students tackled a complex and intricate script with impressive confidence and clarity. Among the standout cast were two fifth graders and one fourth grader, proving that our younger students are more than ready to rise to any challenge.
This year’s production also echoes a special tradition. Great Expectations was last performed at Mater Christi in 1998, when Mr. Fitzgerald, then a student himself, portrayed Abel Magwitch. That legacy of passion for literature and performance continues to inspire our students today.
Parents and guests were amazed by the quality and professionalism of the show. One parent shared:
“Great show last night. We were thrilled with the professionalism we saw. The kids pulled off such a complex show so well prepared, with smooth set changes, strong delivery, and your music as the glue. It was really wonderful, and we’ll not forget it.” — Rob Ostrander
At MCS, we believe the performing arts build confidence, critical thinking, and collaboration. This production of Great Expectations is a shining example of what our students can accomplish when they work together toward a shared goal.
