As we end another fulfilling academic year at Mater Christi School, it is a time of mixed emotions. We bid farewell to the familiar routines and look forward to summer adventures while also reflecting on the moments that have shaped us. Recently, we took the opportunity to honor an exceptional individual who exemplifies the values cherished by Sister Joanne LaFreniere, and whose presence has left an indelible mark on our school community.
Sister Joanne LaFreniere holds a special place in the hearts of all who her unwavering dedication has touched. With an incredible 61 years of service in Vermont’s Catholic Schools, including 54 years at Mater Christi School, her legacy is profound. To recognize her remarkable contributions, we established the Sister Joanne LaFreniere Spirit of Mercy Award, presented to a rising 8th grader who embodies the core values and teachings of our school and the Sisters of Mercy.
We are pleased to announce that Nico Murnaghan has been chosen to receive the Sister Joanne LaFreniere Spirit of Mercy Award for the 2023-2024 academic year. Nico’s embodiment of Mater Christi School’s values and her commitment to reflecting the teachings and values of the Sisters of Mercy make her a deserving recipient.
The selection process involved careful deliberation by our middle school teachers and the school administration. Nico’s remarkable qualities, including kindness, goodness, inclusivity, and respect for all, were unanimously recognized as she consistently went above and beyond to make a positive impact on those around her.
In recognition of her outstanding character and contribution to our school community, Nico will receive a $500 scholarship. Moreover, her name will be engraved on a plaque prominently displayed in our middle school lobby, serving as a lasting testament to her exceptional achievement. Congratulations, Nico!
