News: May Crowning 2023

May 9, 2023

On May 8th, the Mater Christi School community gathered in the Chapel of the Sacred Heart to honor Mary, our Blessed Mother, with our annual May Crowning celebration.  Father Carter, SSE served as our celebrant and Victoria B. and Jack G. were our altar servers. This beautiful liturgy brought together students, teachers, parents, and friends. The event was led by the first-grade students, who did a fantastic job in leading Mass.

Special thanks to Mrs. Macedonia, our first-grade teacher, for doing an exceptional job preparing her students for the ceremony. The first-grade students’ enthusiasm and reverence set the tone for the celebration.

One of the highlights of the event was the crowning of the statue of Mary at the entrance of Mount St. Mary’s Convent. The eighth-grade boys were ushers and led the whole student body to the statue of the Virgin Mary. The girls surrounded our Blessed Mother in front of the convent, and we all offered our prayers and devotion. Lila H. crowned our Blessed Mother’s statue, and Megan M. brought flowers as an offering. The solemnity of the moment was palpable, and it was a true testament to the faith and commitment of our students.

We also want to extend our gratitude to all the Sisters of Mercy, parents, and friends who joined us in this celebration. Your presence and support made this day even more meaningful and special.

May Crowning is a cherished tradition at Mater Christi School, and we are proud to continue this beautiful Catholic practice. We believe that honoring Mary and recognizing her as our Heavenly Mother is vital to our faith and spirituality.

Thank you to everyone who participated in May Crowning 2023. May our devotion to Mary continue to inspire and guide us throughout the year.
