News: Sister Joanne LaFreniere Spirit of Mercy Award

June 17, 2022

In recognition of Sister Joanne’s LaFreniere longstanding service to Mater Christi School, we created an annual award to honor Sister Joanne’s contribution to and legacy at our school. Sister Joanne worked for 61 years in Vermont at Catholic Schools and taught for 54 years. Many of those years were spent at Mater Christi School. The 2021-2022 recipient was Jack Griffin. This award is given annually to a rising 8th grader who embraces Mater Christi School’s core values and positively reflects the teachings and values of the Sisters of Mercy. This award is based on the recommendation of the middle school teachers and ultimately selected by the school administration. Jack was chosen unanimously because he exudes kindness, goodness and is inclusive and respectful of all whom he meets. As a recipient of the Sister Joanne LaFreniere Spirit of Mercy Award, Jack received a $500 scholarship. His name will be engraved on a plaque that is prominently displayed in our middle school lobby. Jack truly embodies Mercy. Congratulations to Jack!
