On September 24, the Mater Christi School community joined other 48 other Mercy schools in 7 countries to celebrate Mercy Day. Students, teachers, and staff members began the day with a prayer service honoring the Sisters of Mercy and their foundress, Catherine McAuley. Students learned about Mercy’s origins in Dublin, Ireland in 1827, and its current impact in America and worldwide in convents, schools, hospitals, orphanages, and other works of mercy. We reflected on Global Vision and Responsibility, the core value we are focusing on this year, and learned how the first Sisters of Mercy lived this value as they went outside of themselves and their homelands to bring Mercy to those in need. As the service concluded with a prayer, the Mater Christi School community considered the question “How will you, like the Sisters of Mercy, bring Mercy to others and to the world?”
