President’s Perspective: Recent Events And Dates Of Observance

November 2, 2016

Dear Mater Christi Families:

It’s hard to believe we are now in the month of November.  Fall sports have come to an end, and we are on the cusp of the start of the winter sports season.  This past weekend, I had the privilege to travel to Stowe to watch our boys and girls cross country teams compete in the Vermont State Middle School Championship.  Although it was quite chilly and rainy and the course was quite challenging, Mater Christi was well represented with strong individual performances, as well as outstanding team results.  The boy’s team finished third in the state and the girl’s team finished fourth.  Many thanks to all of our runners as well as our coaches for an outstanding season!

Attached to this correspondence you will find a Brief Summary of the Governance Structure of Mater Christi School.  This document highlights the responsibilities of the Sisters of Mercy, the Board of Trustees and my role as president/head of school.  This document was prepared by our Board of Trustees to provide clarity about the roles and responsibilities of these three entities.  It is my hope this information is helpful as we continue to develop solid structures around governance and leadership at our school.

Please note that if you have specific questions about a teacher, grade level, or subject, the best person to talk to first is the teacher.  If you do not get a satisfactory answer, you should then go to Ms. Barone or Mr. Loescher.  Finally, if questions or issues can’t be answered/resolved by these very capable people, the question or issue should be brought to my attention.  Please note that if you need to speak with any member of our staff, the best approach is to send an email outlining your questions and/or formally request a meeting.  Our team is committed to the success of every student at Mater Christi and values ongoing communication and partnership with parents.

Throughout the month of November, we have a few dates I want to bring to your attention:

This Friday, November 4 from 8:15-9 am, please join us for our First Friday Coffee in the library.  Stop by for a cup of coffee and conversation.

On Tuesday, November 8 school will not be in session.  Since it is Election Day and Mater Christi is a polling place, our school will be overrun with enthusiastic voters.  However, our faculty will be here that day engaged in professional development with a continued focus on responsive classroom.

On Friday, November 11 we will be having our annual Veterans Day assembly.  Please join us at 8:30 am as our students honors those men and women who have served in our country’s armed forces.

Finally, as the temperatures continue to drop during the month of November, please make sure your children are properly dressed for colder weather.  Coats, hats, gloves/mittens are essential as the temperature begins to fall throughout this month.

Sincerely,

Pat Lofton
