Middle School Technology Night

October 27, 2015

Chrome Book VideoOn Thursday, October 22nd, the MCS middle school teachers hosted a Technology Night for parents.  Mr. Pendergrass, science teacher, led the discussion.  Parents received an overview about the technology used to enrich student learning in grades 6-8.  To kick off the evening, Mr. Pendergrass showed a video, created by students, which illustrated A Day in the Life of a Chrome Book.

The MCS teachers summarized the school’s one-to-one technology philosophy in the following ways:

  1. Depth of Understanding: Technology can enhance opportunities for experiential learning through virtual experiences and prepare students for the complexities of the twenty-first century.
  2. Facilitation and Access: Technology can extend access to learning opportunities and materials and enable students to learn at their own pace.
  3. Differentiated Instruction: Technology can provide a means of making personalized accommodations to meet the needs of all learners.
  4. Global Vision and Responsibility: Technology fosters not only communication and connectivity with the global community but can facilitate deeper respect in our students and a sense of responsibility as global citizens.

TechnologyParents learned more about the comprehensive values-guided tech training the students had in September which emphasized device management, discipline management and digital citizenship. Mr. Pendergrass also talked about the Google classroom platform as well as some of the education applications that students use daily.
