Makerspace: Fold the Flock at the Champlain Mini Maker Faire

September 28, 2015

Fold the Flock In the Mater Christi Makerspace, second grade students learned about the fragility and extinction of species by participating in the Fold the Flock Passenger Pigeon Origami project.  After folding their pigeons, they turned them into e-origami finger puppets with red LED eyes.

Fold the FlockOn September 26th and 27th, Mater Christi School presented the same project at the Champlain Mini Maker Faire at Shelburne Farms.  Almost 200 people folded pigeons; about 120 of those installed LED eyes.  Participants of all ages learned about passenger pigeons, LEDs, circuits and the Mater Christi Makerspace.  They also learned how to fold origami and solder.  All pigeons created at the fair (192) will be added to our school count (currently at 33), and the total will be posted on the Fold the Flock website under Mater Christi School.

The Mater Christi Middle School Robotics Club also demonstrated their custom built robot at the Maker Faire, and raised $40 for the club.  It was a fun and successful event for our students and school.  Thanks to all who visited our booth and helped us Fold the Flock!
