LEGO Robotics is fun, hands-on, and allows students to work together with a partner exploring as young scientists and engineers in the Mater Christi Makerspace. Students investigate and work on understanding the operation of simple and compound machines found in everyday life.
One group uses LEGO Simple Machine Packs to develop creative problem-solving skills, communicate ideas, and work in a team. The activities lead students to make use of the scientific method through observation, reasoning, prediction, and critical thinking. Students work in pairs with lessons on Gears, Wheels & Axles, Levers, and Pulleys.
A second group of students work in pairs using the LEGO WeDo kits to showcase their skills to create moving models, all while enhancing their creative and problem-solving abilities. These activities lead students to make use of the scientific method through observation, reasoning, prediction, and critical thinking. Students will be able to build LEGO models featuring working motors and sensors; program their models; and explore a series of cross-curricular, theme-based activities while developing their skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
