Makerspace: A New Creative Learning Center is Emerging at MCS

March 6, 2015

A new creative learning lab is emerging in the elementary school computer lab at Mater Christi School. The Mater Christi School Makerspace is a new community of makers forming to use this space to explore, make and share.

Students in all grade levels will benefit from the Makerspace. Some of the many uses for this space will include:

  • Lego Robotics: Starting with Simple Machines, and progressing through Power Functions and Wedos to Mindstorms, the Inventors Workshop will provide a progressive Lego experience.
  • Maker Activities
  • Digital Media
  • Four Winds
  • Odyssey of the Mind
  • Project Support
  • Skills Classes
  • Community Builds: Greensea, an aquatic robot company in Richmond, recently donated an eclectic collection of leftover parts from their factory stock room.  The Inventors Workshop is planning to use this primordial soup to design and build cool robotic creations with members of the Generator and Laboratory B in Burlington.  Join us in any of the various steps it will take to go from a pile of unrelated parts to functioning robots.  Learn more about Mater Christi School’s “Make a Robot in a Weekend Robo-Thon” on Saturday, April 11.  Creating will begin at 9:00 AM and will go until we have a robot!
