Zsuzsanna Kadas-Foote

Vice Chair, Board of Trustees

 

Zsu joined the Board in January 2021 and is Chair of the Governance Committee and Vice-Chair of the Board. After 34 years as a Professor of Mathematics, Zsu (“Sue”) retired in 2019 from Saint Michael’s College. She earned her B.S. in Mathematics and Physics at St. John’s University in New York City, and her Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics at Rutgers University, with research focused on mathematical modeling of biological systems. Zsu taught courses ranging from Elementary Calculus to senior-level Applied Mathematics. Her leadership roles included: Chair of the Mathematics Department, Chair of the Curriculum and Educational Policy Committee, and Moderator of the Faculty Assembly. She was co-founder of the UVM-SMC 3+2 Engineering Program and co-director from 1994 to 2019.

Over the years, Zsu cultivated a strong interest in the Catholic intellectual and spiritual tradition. Zsu served as a Lector at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception from 1980 until its closing in 2017, and now lectors at St. Michael’s. Zsu’s Mercy connection goes back to elementary school days at St Gerard Majella in Queens, NY, where the Mercy Sisters were her teachers. All three of her children Peter ’01, Kari ’05, and Alexa ‘05 (Foote) are proud graduates of Mater Christi, and of Rice High School. Zsu lives in Shelburne with her husband, Richard Foote, recently retired Professor of Mathematics at UVM. They enjoy visits with their three grandchildren, bicycle rides, and long walks with their spirited Airedale terrier.
