Faith Gong
4th Grade Teacher

I grew up in Northern Virginia, and have lived in many wonderful places (Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York City, and California), but Vermont is my favorite! Our family moved here in 2011 when my husband took a teaching job at Middlebury College. We live with our five children, two dogs, one cat, and a flock of chickens, ducks, and geese. Teaching is my first love: I began my career as a 2nd and 4th grade teaching intern at Greenwich Academy (CT), followed by four years as a 3rd grade teacher at The Nightingale-Bamford School (NYC.) During my time in New York, I also volunteered as a GED tutor at St. Paul’s House, taught photography in the Creative Arts summer program, and spent a summer assisting at the Canon Andrea Mwaka School in Dodoma, Tanzania. After a hiatus working in community-based nonprofits, I returned to teaching in 2016 when I began homeschooling my own children. I love to write, and for 13 years I have written a monthly column for The Addison Independent newspaper called “Faith in Vermont.” Literature is one of my favorite things, and most recently I worked part-time in the youth room at Ilsley Public Library in Middlebury. I’m thrilled to be returning to the classroom and to be joining the Mater Christi School community!
