Middle School Social Studies Teacher

I grew up in Greenwich Village, New York City and fell in love with the Green Mountains while at the University of Vermont. My undergraduate degree was in Mass Communication and I worked in NYC in radio and television, and wrote for the Burlington Free Press once I moved back here. I earned a Master’s Degree from the University of Vermont with a dual endorsement in Middle Level Education in Social Studies and Language Arts while raising three children and coaching swim team at the YMCA.
This begins my tenth year of teaching on the Middle School Team; embarking on a new journey as the Social Studies teacher! I’ve taught Humanities and Social Studies in area schools and am very much looking forward to embracing history, geography, and civics again!
I have always been a fitness enthusiast teaching yoga, cycling, and swimming. I possess certifications for the professional rescuer in Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED. I’ve been working at the Burlington YMCA for over 30 years & at UVM Athletics for 5 years. In the summer, I enjoy swimming, paddle-boarding, and sailing on Lake Champlain. I spent a lot of time reading this summer and hope to keep the practice of having a good book at hand through the cold months. I love cross country and downhill skiing on those perfect blue sky days. Of course, you can often find me on the MCS rink!
My husband Thomas and I have 3 daughters: Marcella, Elena, & Bianca…all grown professionals now: a biochemist, electrical engineer, and a financial analyst respectively. They are excellent at games and keep us on our toes with everything from Settlers of Catan to Code Names!
