Fifth graders recently completed an integrated arts project in which they created a coloring book, Animals of the World. In Mrs. Bedard’s language/literacy class, students chose an animal and researched important facts about its habitat, habits, and other details. Working with Mrs. Baker in the Art Studio, they then designed a coloring page that featured the animal. This lesson in artistic purpose and composition helped them to create an image appropriate for the coloring book format. With Mrs. Duell, they then took the information about their animal and translated it into Spanish.
On Friday, April 28, fifth graders visited with their Mass Buddies to read their pages and to present them with the completed, bound coloring books. They then began coloring and collaborating with their kindergarten friends. This project crossed curricula and focused on the integral relationships students build here at our school, as we guide them to live the Mercy Values. Unique learning and creative opportunities like this are part of what makes Mater Christi such a special place!
