Students gathered in mid-March for a statewide individual spelling bee at the McCarthy Arts Center at Saint Michael’s College in Colchester. Among them was Kian Arani, 7th grade student at Mater Christi School. Kian finished 5th out of the state’s ten finalists. In order to qualify for the statewide spelling bee, Kian had to out-spell the regional finalists from grades 6-8 at his own school. These school finalists were Phoebe Weller (8), Davis Lavoie (8), Claire Ammirato (7), Kian Arani (7), George Huffmam (6), and Elena Valerio (6).
The event was hosted by the state Agency of Education, the Vermont Principals’ Association, the Vermont Humanities Council and The Times Argus and Rutland Herald. Kian received a medallion for advancing to the state level.
Congratulations to each student who participated in this event.
